Environmental sustainability: 7 football clubs invited by the ECA to a conference as part of COP29

Club Atlético de Madrid and Real Betis Balompié (ESP), Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC (ENG), Udinese Calcio (ITA), FC Porto (POR) and Qarabag FK (AZE), these are the seven clubs (from the UEFA zone) that took part in a conference dedicated to the fight against climate change through the power of football, at the initiative of the ECA, in Baku (AZE) on 16/11/2024.

The event was organised to coincide with COP29 (29^th Conference of the Parties) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the world's largest forum on the subject, which aims to achieve a rapid, significant and lasting reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

This was the first time in history that the world of football and the ECA had participated in this conference. "This pivotal event, co-presented by the COP29 Presidency and co-hosted by ECA member club Qarabağ FK, underscored ECA's commitment to environmental sustainability and placed its members at the forefront of international climate discussions," said the European Club Association.
