FIFPRO: Sergio Marchi (ARG), first non-European to be elected president of the world players' union

Argentina's Sergio Marchi has been elected president of the new 12-strong FIFPRO board at the general assembly held in Indonesia from 26 to 28/11/2024, according to the worldwide representative union of professional players on the final day of the event.

The FAA general secretary, who is also president of FIFPRO's South American office, thus becomes the first non-European president of the international organisation founded in 1965. He succeeds David Aganzo (ESP), who took over from Philippe Piat (FRA) in 2021. Sergio Marchi will be accompanied by Alex Phillips (SUI), who will take over as FIFPRO's secretary general in March 2025.

The event also served "as an opportunity for over 70 FIFPRO full, candidate and observer unions to align on global strategy, engage in open dialogue and share knowledge on a range of industry-related matters in order to better serve the needs of professional footballers around the globe," added the body, where Frenchman David Terrier, president of FIFPRO Europe, retains a seat on the board.
