Ligue 2: Red Star FC - first French club to leave X, which it says has become a "catalyst for hate"

Red Star FC (Ligue 2 BKT) has left the social network X, on which it created its account in November 2009 (and which had 57,197 followers on 04/12/2024), announced the club on 04/12/2024. It is the first French club to leave the platform, which was bought by Elon Musk in October 2022.

"For several months now, Red Star has been observing the transformation of X from a forum for debate to a platform that has become an exponential and uninterrupted catalyst for hate. This is something the club does not wish to condone," explained the French club.

Three Bundesliga clubs (SC Freiburg, FC St. Pauli and SV Werder Bremen) also ceased their activities on X in November 2024, criticising its owner and the "hate speech and conspiracy theories" that have become increasingly prevalent on the platform.
