Lega Serie A: no successor for president Lorenzo Casini, next vote on 20/12/2024

The Lega Serie A still does not know who will succeed president Lorenzo Casini (elected on 11/03/2022 and not standing for re-election) following the general assembly convened in Milan (Lombardy, ITA) on 09/12/2024.

The only candidate, Ezio Maria Simonelli, born on 12/02/1958, a former accountant in the Berlusconi family, backed by the majority of clubs led by the big names (Atalanta BC, FC Inter Milan and Juventus FC) received 13 votes in the first round. However, he would have needed one more, 14, to be elected (qualified two-thirds majority), even though he thought he could count on the support of 15 clubs.

There were six blank ballots and one vote for... Mario Draghi, the former head of the Italian government (2021-2022).

The rest of the vote has been postponed. The next vote has been set for Friday 20/12/2024: the quorum for the election will then still be 14 votes (the qualified majority will fall from 14 to 11 votes in the event of a third round): Ezio Maria Simonelli will therefore have to convince at least one of the seven club presidents who did not vote for him, unless new…
