FIFA: an economic impact of €2.55bn & 24,100 jobs created by the 2026 World Cup in Canada

The 2026 World Cup is expected to generate an economic impact of CAD3.8bn (€2.55bn) in Canada, one of its three host countries (along with the United States and Mexico), between June 2023 and July 2026, according to a study carried out by Deloitte Canada and released by FIFA on 10/12/2024. Canada will host 13 of the 104 matches in Vancouver and Toronto.

The total economic impact of the competition, which is also expected to create 24,100 sustainable jobs in the country, would break down as follows:
• up to CAD2bn (€1.34bn) in contribution to gross domestic product
• CAD1.3bn (€870m) in labour income
• CAD700m (€469m) in government revenue

"For every Canadian dollar spent on tournament preparations or by visitors attending the competition, it is estimated that the FIFA World Cup 26 will contribute CAD1.09 to the GDP of Canada," according to the study. The contribution to GDP per match is expected to average CAD155m (€104m), with 1,850 jobs created or sustained per match (the highest ratio of sustainable jobs per match among the three host countries).
