Lega Serie A: agreement with Meta (tech conglomerate) to combat piracy of sporting events

Lega Serie A and the American group Meta, which owns the social networks Facebook and Instagram as well as the instant messaging application WhatsApp, have signed an agreement to combat online piracy of sporting events, according to the Italian league on 13/12/2024.

"Combatting piracy online can present unique challenges that no one entity can fully solve alone. However, when content owners, online platforms, and other stakeholders partner together to fight piracy, significant progress is possible," said Lega Serie A, which welcomes its "first collaboration between Lega Serie A and a tech company" in the field of content protection.

This agreement has three axes:
• "Lega Serie A has access to Rights Manager, a content management system developed by Meta at no costs to rights holders that allows them to protect their content around the world, including live content in real-time.
