Spain: Movistar (telecoms) title sponsor of Madrid's Palacio de Deportes from 2025

Movistar, a brand owned by telecoms operator Telefonica, has acquired the naming rights to the Palacio de Deportes in Madrid (ESP) from 2025, announced Impulsa Eventos e Instalaciones, the company in charge of managing the arena owned by the Community of Madrid, on 16/12/2024.

The brand succeeds the Spanish banking group WiZink, naming partner of the arena since 2016. The "WiZink Center", the venue used by Real Madrid Basketball (Liga Endesa, Turkish Airlines EuroLeague), will become the "Movistar Arena" from January 2025.

WiZink had a clause allowing it to extend its naming contract until 2028. "The change has been made possible by WiZink Bank's willingness to end the naming partnership after a decade, motivated by the implementation of a new 2024-2028 strategic plan, and the transformation of its banking business towards a B2B2C model," said Impulsa Eventos e Instalaciones.

Movistar is also a naming partner of several venues in Buenos Aires (ARG), Bogota (COL) and Santiago (CHI). Telefonica also has naming rights for venues in London (ENG) and Prague (CZE) via its subsidiary O2…
