Manchester United FC: decision to renovate Old Trafford or build a new stadium expected summer 2025

Manchester United FC's (Premier League) decision on the future of Old Trafford (Manchester, ENG), whether to renovate the 74,879-seat stadium or build a new stadium with a capacity of around 100,000, is "expected in the summer (2025)," said the club on 17/12/2024.

This announcement comes at the end of the last meeting of the task force dedicated to the stadium's redevelopment, set up by the club in March 2024 and chaired by Sebastian Coe. Although this task force examined both scenarios, the construction of a new stadium is favoured by its members, including British businessman Jim Ratcliffe, who became a minority shareholder (25%) in the club in February 2024, according to several British media outlets.

As part of the project, the Manchester club launched a consultation with its fans from 20/09 to 06/10/2024. 52% of the "over 50,000" respondents were in favour of building a new stadium, compared with 37% in favour of renovating Old Trafford and 11% who were unsure.
