DFL/DFB: German Supercup renamed in honour of Franz Beckenbauer from 2025-26

The DFL-Supercup, the match between the winner of the Bundesliga and the winner of the DFB-Pokal, will be known as the "Franz Beckenbauer Supercup" from the 2025-26 season, announced the DFL on 20/12/2024.

"The visual identity and logo of the competition will be adapted accordingly, as a tribute to the greatest German footballer of all time," added the Deutsche Fußball Liga on this initiative undertaken "jointly with the DFB" for the competition created in 2010. The 2025 edition of the DFL-Supercup will take place on 16/08/2025.

Franz Beckenbauer, two-time Ballon d'Or winner (1972 and 1976) and former Germany international defender (103 caps between 1965 and 1977) died on Sunday 07/01/2024 at the age of 78.
