"It's not perfect, we know that, but why are we talking about compensation? It's happening once, we're not destroying football," said Jérôme Valcke, the Secretary General of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), the day after the third meeting of the Task Force on the organisation of international matches from 2018 to 2024, in Doha (QAT) on 25/02/2014.

During its meeting on 24/02/2015, FIFA's Task Force "[Identified] end-November/end-December as the most viable period for the 2022 FIFA World Cup."

"Why should we apologise to the clubs? We have had an agreement with the clubs that they are part of the beneficiaries. It was $40m (€32.7m at the time) in 2010 and $70m (€51.1m) in 2014," added Jérôme Valcke.

  • The dates for the 2022 World Cup will be determined at the next meeting of the Executive Committee of FIFA in Zurich (SUI) on 19 and 20/03/2015.
  • The tournament could begin on Saturday 26/11/2022 and end on Friday 23/12/2022, a period of 28 days.
