Greece: Super League suspended at least one week by the government due to violent incidents

The Greek government announced the suspension, for at least one week, of all Super League (Greek first division) matches on 25/02/2015. This decision follows repeated acts of violence at several matches of the Greek league, especially during the Panathinaikos - Olympiakos derby match (2-1, Matchday 25 of the Super League) on 22/02/2015.

"Under the current circumstances it is impossible to have Super League games played this weekend. The decision of the government regarding the combating of violence is definitive and irrevocable," stated Stavros Kontonis, the Greek deputy sports minister on 25/02/2015.

A decision will be taken on whether to continue or lift the suspension of Super League matches on 04/03/2015.

  • Olympiakos host the Ukrainian club FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the Round of 32 of the Europa League at the Georgios Karaiskakis-Piraeus stadium on 26/02/2015 (kick-off at 21:05 Central European Time).
