MLS: league and players meet together with government mediators to avoid strike before 06/03/2015

"The issues (between the MLS players and league management) are with free agency; there's a lot of other issues, and we'll continue to try to resolve them. We (will meet) with the players from 01/03 to 03/03/2015 in Washington, D.C. at the offices of the 'Federal Mediation and Concilliation Services', and we've got to (make) an agreement," stated Don Garber, the commissioner of MLS (Major League Soccer, USA-CAN), regarding the negotiations for a new CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement, see below) with the players, and the possibility of an MLS players' strike, at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston (USA), on 27/02/2015.

According to American media, the league and the player's union have agreed to continue negotiations on 04/03/2015. A very limited version of free agency for tenured players has apparently been discussed, but neither MLS nor the MLS Players' Union made any official comment on 03/03/2015.

The 2015 MLS season is scheduled to kick-off on 06/03/2015 with the MLS Cup holder LA Galaxy hosting the Chicago Fire at 22:00 (Eastern Standard Time). With away teams…
