AFCON 2023: Guinea would not be able to host AFCON 2023 in June, according to its sports minister

"We cannot accommodate the Nations Cup in June, it is the rainy season," said Domani Doré, the Guinean sports minister, referring to AFCON (African Cup of Nations) 2023, which Guinea will host, on 03/01/2015.

AFCON 2023 was originally to be held in January 2023, but Jérôme Valcke, the secretary general of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), indicated that CAF (African Football Confederation) had agreed to postpone the competition until June 2023 on 25/02/2015.

The movement of AFCON 2023 from January to June aims to avoid a clash with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which is expected to be played sometime across the November-December period in 2022.
