IOC: the automobile manufacturer Toyota is expected to become a top Worldwide Olympic Partner

The Japanese automaker Toyota is expected to enter into an agreement with the IOC (International Olympic Committee) to become a top Worldwide Olympic Partner, the highest tier in the organisation's sponsorship programme, announced the Japan Times on 03/03/2015. Akio Toyoda, the president of Toyota, and Thomas Bach, the president of the IOC should formalise the agreement in Tokyo on 13/03/2015.

Toyota will join 11 advertisers in this category alongside the Japanese companis Bridgestone (tyres) and Panasonic (electronic). Toyota, as the exclusive automotive partner, is expected pay a sum estimated at €752m, or about €125m per year for the 2015-2020 period, according to the Japan Times.

  • The partnership with Toyota came as the City of Tokyo has launched a plan to put 6,000 hydrogen cars into circulation in the streets of the Japanese capital for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020.
    • Tokyo is negotiating with Honda and Toyota, the two biggest manufacturers in this field.
