"The lead times to design a new collection are very important in the equipment area. Having worked closely with adidas for years, we will talk with adidas firstly. Of course, Nike has a fair chance to become Germany's new kit supplier, but there may also be other companies who want to become our new kit supplier," stated Wolfgang Niersbach, president of the DFB (Deutscher Fußball-Bund, the German Football Association) to the German magazine Sponsors on 04/02/2015.

In 2007, the DFB extended its agreement with the German brand adidas until 2018 for an estimated annual amount to €26m. The company, based in Herzogenaurach (GER), was preferred over Nike, even though the American brand may have proposed an amount twice that of adidas, according to German media.

  • The budget of the DFB was estimated at €211m in 2014.
  • The revenue from all sponsorship partnerships was estimated at €60m.
