BBC: peak of 8.9 million viewers for Man Utd - Arsenal, best TV audience of the FA Cup in 2014-15

The quarter-final fixture of the FA Cup (English association cup) between Manchester United FC - Arsenal FC (1-2) allowed the British public TV channel BBC One to gather 7,266,000 viewers on average during the match on Monday 09/03/2015 (kick-off 20:45 CET), according to figures released by the commercial TV channel ITV. This score represents an audience share of 31%, and allowed BBC One to achieve the second best performance on British television for the evening of 09/03/2015, behind ITV (Coronation Street, TV series, 7,334,000 average viewers, 33% audience share).

BBC One recorded a peak audience of 8.9 million viewers during the match to be "the highest television audience for an FA Cup (match) this season," said the public channel. The previous high was the FA Cup fourth round match between Cambridge United FC (League Two, English fourth division) - Manchester United FC (0-0), which allowed BBC One to achieve a peak audience of 7.1 million viewers during the match on Friday 23/01/2015 (5.82 million viewers on average, 25.3% audience share).
