Champions League: Canal+ draws 2.51 million subscribers for Chelsea-Paris Saint-Germain, new record

The Chelsea FC - Paris Saint-Germain match (2-2 a.e.t., Paris Saint-Germain advanced on away goals), in the Round of 16 of the 2014-15 Champions League, allowed the French pay-TV channel Canal+, the live exclusive broadcaster of the match in France, to gather 2.51 million subscribers on average during the match (kick-off at 20:45) on 11/03/2015.

This score represents an audience share of 45.7% of subscribers, and allowed Canal+ to achieve the fourth best performance in the French TV market for the first part of the evening of Wednesday 11/03/2015. This is the best audience ever recorded by Canal+ for the Round of 16 of the Champions League, said the channel on 12/03/2015. The previous record was the first match between Paris Saint-Germain - Chelsea FC (1-1, on 17/02/2015), which allowed Canal+ to collect 2.34 million viewers during the match (41.3% audience share).

  • "The game achieved the highest audience on Twitter for a TV programme on all channels since the beginning of the measurement by Médiamétrie, with 596,000 accounts reached during the match," said Canal+ on 12/03/2015.
