The MLS and the MLS Players' Union came to agreement on a new CBA (collective bargaining agreement, or agreed upon labour regulations between the league and the players) on 04/03/2015, and the 2015 MLS season kicked off on 06/03/2015. Terms of the new agreement between the league and the players have not been made public, but the next accord will cover five seasons, 2015 to 2019.

Matchday 1 of the 2015 MLS season was highlighted by the Orlando City SC - New York City FC match (1-1, on 08/03/2015), which marked the debut of the two new franchises (MLS has 20 teams in total in 2015). The match drew 62,510 spectators at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando (Florida, USA), and garnered 539,000 viewers on the national TV broadcast of the pay-TV channel ESPN2.
