IOC: IMG named consultant in tender for the TV rights in 49 countries for the 2018 and 2020 Olympics

The IOC has named the American marketing and media rights agency IMG as a consultant and announced it will launch the tender process for the broadcast rights in 49 European countries to the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang (South Korea) and 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (Japan) on 11/05/2015, the body announced on 16/03/2015.

The tender notably includes Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, and Russia. Bids must be submitted by 15/06/2015. The IOC indicated it will judge bids based on their ability to reach the biggest audience possible across multiple media platforms, the financial amount, and the ability to work with the IOC on the new Olympic Channel project -- including content and distribution assistance for the year-round initiative. The IOC stated it will accept bids on both a multi-territory or country-by-country basis.

  • In France, the public broadcaster France Télévisions was awarded the audiovisual rights to the 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020 Olympics in July 2011.
