AZ Alkmaar: Billy Beane, general manager of the Oakland Athletics (MLB), becomes a club consultant

Billy Beane, general manager of the Oakland Athletics (MLB, American professional baseball league), has become a consultant of AZ Alkmaar (Eredivisie, NED), the club announced on 17/03/2015.

Billy Beane, known for his use of data analytics in sports management, will assist the club in the areas of high performance and innovation, with the goal of helping the club compete in the Eredivisie regarding the financial inequalities with the bigger clubs in the Netherlands.

"(Billy Beane) has been able to close the gap with the big market teams (in MLB) by being innovative. We are very excited and look forward to work with him," said Robert Eenhoorn, the CEO of AZ Alkmaar and former player of the New York Yankees (MLB), on 17/03/2015. "(AZ Alkmaar) face many of the challenges we have with the Oakland A’s (Athletics). My love for football and AZ’s vision of the future of the club made this an attractive pursuit," stated Billy Beane on 17/03/2015.
