IOC: executive board proposes the election of Tony Estanguet as an individual member

"Through a vote by correspondence, the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has approved the nomination of Tony Estanguet, three-time Olympic champion in canoeing, for election as an IOC member at the 144^th IOC Session, which will take place in Greece from 18 to 21/03/2025," announced the international body on 07/01/2025.

"Following the recommendation of the IOC members election commission, Mr Estanguet will be proposed as an independent Individual," added the Committee.

After retiring from sport in November 2012, the Frenchman was elected as a member of the IOC Athletes' Commission for an eight-year term (2013-2021), becoming a de facto member of the Committee for the same period. Tony Estanguet represented the IOC at the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in 2014. He was subsequently elected vice-chair of the IOC Athletes' Commission for the 2016-2018 cycle.
