Supercopa de España: "The redistribution model could be made fairer" (J. Uriarte, Athletic Club)

"The system of redistribution (of funds) to the clubs taking part in the Supercopa de España is an RFEF decision and we believe that the model could be improved and made fairer, like those put in place in European or LALIGA competitions, which take into account factors such as sporting performance, the social establishment of the clubs and their public," declared Jon Uriarte Uranga, president of Athletic Club Bilbao (LALIGA EA Sports) on 07/01/2025.

The Basque club will face FC Barcelona on Wednesday 08/01 (kick-off at 20:00 CET) in the semi-finals of the tournament, which will be played entirely at the King Abdullah Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. If they win, Athletic Club will face the winner of the other semi-final, Real Madrid CF - RCD Mallorca, scheduled for 09/01, in the final on Sunday 12/01.

The RFEF receives €40m for each edition of the Supercup organised in Saudi Arabia until 2029. Around €20m of this sum goes to the four participating clubs, with a fixed minimum of €6m for Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, according to the Spanish daily Marca. This is more than Athletic Club…
