TV rights: $10bn spent by streaming platforms in 2024 (Ampere Analysis)

Streaming platforms paid $10bn (€9.69bn) for the broadcasting rights to sporting events in 2024, an increase of $7.2bn (€6.97bn) compared to "five years earlier," according to a study by British firm Ampere Analysis published on 07/01/2025.

"In 2025, Ampere expects streaming platforms' spend on sportsrights to exceed $11bn, which will account for 23% of the global sports rights market. By 2025 four of the top 10 US sports rights buyers will be streaming platforms," said the firm.

The platforms mentioned by Ampere Analysis are as follows:
• Netflix, whose main rights are: WWE (since 2025, global rights), Women's World Cup 2027 and 2031, NFL (Christmas Day games over 2024-2026, global rights);
• Amazon (Prime Video): NBA (2025-2036);
• Google (YouTube): NFL Sunday Ticket (since 2023);
• Apple (Apple TV+): MLS (2023-2032, global rights).
