FC Barcelona: "The club is no longer under LALIGA's financial constraints" (Joan Laporta, president)

"The events of the last few weeks reaffirm Barça's strength and go against the apocalyptic tales put forward in certain areas due to a lack of knowledge or bad faith. Right now, the club stands within the 1:1 ratio regarding financial fair play. That allows us to sign players in the normal fashion, no longer under the league's constraints," declared Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona (LALIGA EA Sports), on 14/01/2025.

The Catalan spoke six days after the Consejo Superio de Deportes (CSD), a body under the Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, suspended the decision of the RFEF-LALIGA coordination agreement monitoring committee dated 04/01/2025 to cancel the licences of players Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor (see timeline below).

"The two most important factors that led the CSD to grant FC Barcelona a provisional reprieve were the contract with Nike (extended until 2037-38 for €127m per season, in November 2024) and the sale of rights to the VIP seats at the new Spotify Camp Nou," added Laporta.
