UEFA: an additional €925,000 for the Euro 2024 climate fund

An additional €925,000 has been added by UEFA to its climate fund, which was set up for Euro 2024 in conjunction with the DFB and the German government for the benefit of the host country's football clubs, announced the European Confederation on 20/01/2025.

A total of €7.925m has thus been paid out to 225 beneficiary clubs under the scheme (compared with €7m planned for 190 clubs). This increase corresponds to a reassessment of the competition's carbon footprint, on the basis of which the payout was calculated. Euro 2024 generated a total of 316,912 tCO2e, including spectator travel, compared with the 280,000 tonnes of CO2 initially forecast.

35 additional German amateur clubs received "an extra pot of funding for sustainable infrastructure," according to UEFA. Of all the projects supported, 184 focused on sustainable energy, 20 on water and irrigation management, nine on waste management and 12 on mobility challenges.
