Germany: DFL unanimously approves TV rights distribution mechanism for 2025-2029

The Deutsche Fußball Liga executive committee has unanimously approved the mechanism for distributing TV rights revenue over the 2025-2029 cycle with the aim of preserving the "principles of performance and solidarity in German professional football," announced the DFL on 27/01/2025.

"The new distribution formula is based on existing key elements of the established system. As before, two separate systems will be utilised to distribute the national and international media revenues respectively. In the case of national media revenues, the four pillars of equal distribution, performance, interest and youth development, together with their previous weighting, will remain in place. The share of the 2.Bundesliga in the distributions will continue to be 20% in the future," explained the German league.

This allocation of German-language TV rights (Germany + neighbouring German-speaking countries or regions) is based, as for the 2021-2025 cycle, on four main criteria (see details below): an equal share (50%), one based on performances (43%), one on the training and use of young players (4%…
