Rugby World Cup 2027: projected expenditure of €777m from 250,000 visitors to Australia

The Men's Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia is expected to generate "AU$1.3bn (€777m) in direct visitor expenditure," announced the organising committee during the presentation of the competition's host cities on 30/01/2025.

"The tournament is projected to inject more than AU$2bn (€1.19bn) into the Australian economy and will establish long-term legacy programs for rugby across communities around the country," said Rugby Australia.

The organisation expects "250,000 international visitors" to attend the tournament, which will be played for the first time in a 24-team format.

Seven cities will host the Rugby World Cup 2027, which will be held from 01/10 to 13/11/2027 (52 matches in total):
• Sydney: 13 matches (i.e. 25% of the matches), including eight knockout matches comprising the final, the match for third place, the semi-finals, 2 quarter-finals and 2 Round of 16 matches
• Brisbane: 10 matches (i.e. 19%), including 2 quarter-finals and 2 Round of 16 matches
• Melbourne : 9 matches (i.e. 17%), including 2 Round of 16 matches
• Perth: 7 matches (i.e. 13%), including 2 Round of 16…
