United Kingdom: 45.2 million people watched more than one minute of women's sport on TV in 2024

45.2 million unique viewers watched at least one minute of women's sport on television in the UK in 2024, a decline of more than 1 million on the record set in 2023 (46.7 million), according to a study by the Women's Sport Trust published on 06/02/2025.

The main figures released by the Women's Sport Trust include:

• the average viewing time of women's sport on British television was 5 hours 47 minutes in 2024, compared with 10 hours 7 minutes in 2023, a drop due in particular to "the absence of the Lionesses in international competition" (the England women's football team reached the final of the World Cup in 2023);
• 164 million hours of women's sport were watched in 2024, compared with 383 million in 2023;
• 22.9 million viewers watched two or more hours of women's sport in 2024, surpassing the record of 21.7 million set in 2022;
• Chelsea FC Women (Barclays Women's Super League) accumulated 167 million views on their TikTok account, which was "more than any other women's sports team on a dedicated women's only TikTok account worldwide."
