The French telecom and media group Vivendi and its counterpart Orange announced the opening of exclusive negotiations for the acquisition, by Vivendi, of 80% of the shares in Dailymotion for €217m, on 07/04/2015. The deal would value the online streaming and video sharing platform at €265m.

"Our partnership with Vivendi will enable Dailymotion, in which we remain a 20% shareholder, to accelerate its growth internationally and to enhance its content offer. The proceeds from this transaction will enable Orange to reinforce its efforts in the digital ecosystem," said Stéphane Richard, the chairman and CEO of Orange.

  • Orange has held 100% of the shares in Dailymotion since January 2013. The group originally acquired a 49% stake in the company in April 2011.
  • Dailymotion receives 2.5 billion page views per month, and generated a turnover of €64m in 2014.
    • The platform employs 222 people, largely in France and the United States.
