France/Ligue 1 TV rights: legal action launched by the LFP against DAZN for non-payment

"The Ligue de Football Professionnel has taken note of DAZN's unfounded refusal to honour its financial commitments. For its part, the LFP scrupulously respects all its contractual commitments and will do everything in its power to assert its rights. In particular, the LFP has decided to refer the matter to the interim relief judge in order to obtain, as a matter of urgency, an order that DAZN pay the sums provided for in the contract and that it be ordered to perform all of its contractual obligations," announced the French league at the end of its extraordinary board meeting, on 12/02/2025.

DAZN, which holds the broadcasting rights to eight Ligue 1 McDonald's games per matchday in France for €400m per year over the 2024-2029 cycle, has reportedly only paid 50% of its February deadline (i.e. €35m gross) for these rights, according to the French outlet L'Équipe. The platform is said to have placed the remaining €35m “in escrow” pending an agreement with the LFP.
