Viaplay: sales of €1.65bn & a return to net profit (€9.47m) in 2024

Swedish audiovisual group Viaplay recorded sales of SEK18.49bn (€1.65bn) in 2024, down 0.41% on 2023 (SEK18.567bn/€1.67bn), according to results published on 20/02/2025.

Viaplay posted an operating loss of SEK558m (€49.8m) in 2024, compared with a loss of SEK10.276bn (€923.7m) in 2023. Viaplay's net profit was SEK106m (€9.47m) in 2024, compared with a net loss of SEK9.747bn (€876.1m) in 2023.

The Swedish group carried out a SEK 4bn (€357m) recapitalisation plan on 01/12/2023, which was finalised on 09/02/2024. Previously, on 20/07/2023, Viaplay had initiated a programme to cut costs and make 25% of its workforce redundant following a poor financial performance.

Viaplay had also announced that it would withdraw from several markets in 2024 in order to "concentrate its activities in the Nordic countries and the Netherlands". In April 2024, the Stockholm-based company sold its operations in the UK and Ireland to pay- and free-TV group Premier Sports.
