Refereeing/Pablo Longoria's comments: SAFE & Ligue 1 referees to sue for defamation

"Last night, the word corruption was used, which means that a milestone has been passed. We find this unacceptable. As a result, all the central referees in Ligue 1 will be going to their regional public prosecutor tomorrow (Monday) to file a complaint for defamation following these remarks," said referee Jérôme Brisard to DAZN ahead of the FC Nantes - RC Lens match on 23/02/2025.

Brisard reacted to comments made the previous day by Pablo Longoria, president of Olympique de Marseille, concerning the refereeing of Jérémy Stinat following OM's defeat by AJ Auxerre (3-0, Matchday 23 in the Ligue 1 McDonald's). "In my 20-year career, I've never seen anything like this," said the Spaniard, referring to "total corruption."

The French Syndicate of Elite Football Referees (SAFE) "has decided to refer the matter to the National Ethics Committee following these particularly scandalous remarks.
