Manchester United FC: 150 to 200 jobs to be cut to "improve the club's financial sustainability"

Manchester United FC (Premier League) "anticipates that approximately 150-200 jobs may be made redundant subject to a consultation process with employees" as part of a strategic plan that "aims to return the club to profitability after five consecutive years of losses since 2019," announced the club on 24/02/2025. The English club, which had 1,068 employees on 30/06/2023, has already cut 250 jobs in 2024.

This decision is part of "a series of additional measures to improve the club's financial sustainability and enhance operational efficiency" initiated in the third quarter of 2024. This economic transformation plan is expected to deliver annual "cost savings of approximately £40m to £45m, before implementation costs of £10m. Due to timing and other contractual obligations, the club expects to realise these savings over fiscal years 2025 and 2026," said Manchester United when it presented its 2023-24 annual results on 11/09/2024.

The club has not posted a positive net result since the 2018-19 season (which ended with a net profit of £18.9m/€21.1m).
