AS Roma: "We're working on an official opening of the stadium by 2028" (R. Gualtieri, Mayor of Rome)

"The dream of inaugurating it (AS Roma's new stadium) in 2027, the club's centenary year, will fade away due to the delay in the timetable. We are working on an official opening by 2028. Early or late 2028? That will depend on the final project," said Roberto Gualtieri, Mayor (Democratic Party, centre-left) of Rome (ITA) since 2021, about AS Roma's (Serie A Enilive) new stadium project on Rai Radio 1 on 24/02/2025.

Lina Souloukou, then CEO of the Italian capital club, and Ryan Friedkin, vice-president, presented the project to the Mayor on 24/07/2024. The stadium is to be built in the Pietralata district in the north-east of Rome. The venue will have a modular capacity of between 55,000 and 62,000 depending on the type of event hosted, a "modern design", the largest south curve in Europe and will "enhance the fan experience," according to the club.

The cost of the works, initially estimated at €570m when the feasibility study was presented in 2022, is now estimated by the American Friedkin Group at nearly €1bn, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport. The work will be financed entirely…
