China: Nie Chenxi named president of CCTV, the main public network of TV channels

Nie Chenxi was appointed president of CCTV, the main public network of Chinese TV channels, stated the Chinese administration on 07/04/2015. He replaces Hu Zhanfan, who now retires after joining CCTV in November 2011.

Nie Chenxi served as deputy director of the general administration of press, publishing, broadcasting, film and television, including regulatory authority in charge of censorship. He also worked for the provincial office of statistics in Hebei (China).

  • CCTV distributes over 40 channels in China, and operates internationally.
  • Nie Chenxi is the first CCTV chief executive that has not been a reporter since 1985, according to international media.
  • CCTV has faced, since 2014, allegations of corruption involving officials of its management.
  • CCTV-5 is the sports channel of the Chinese public service broadcaster CCTV.
