Media: a 72% increase in sports programming on streaming platforms "in Q1 2025" (Nielsen)

Sports programming on streaming platforms (Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Paramount+) increased by 72% in the first quarter of 2025 worldwide, according to a study by data company Gracenote, owned by research firm Nielsen, published on 26/02/2025.

"Four of the five SVOD services tracked by Gracenote have bolstered their sports programming, led by Disney+ and Netflix, with increases of 471% and nearly 100%, respectively. A dramatic increase in sports programming on Disney+, largely the result of adding select ESPN (also owned by Disney) programming, has shifted the distribution of sports programming across the five services," explained the US company.

"Disney+ now accounts for nearly 33% of available sports programming, just behind Amazon (35%), which previously distributed 54% of sports programming. Netflix accounts for just over 23% of sports programming," added Gracenote.
