Manchester United FC: intention to pursue a new 100,000-seater stadium confirmed

"Manchester United has thrown its support behind the Government’s growth agenda by announcing its intention to pursue a new 100,000-seater stadium as the centrepiece of the regeneration of the Old Trafford area (south of Manchester, ENG)," Manchester United FC (Premier League) announced on 11/03/2025.

The project at a total cost of £2bn (€2.37bn) and a six-year construction period will allow the club to continue playing at Old Trafford until the stadium is completed.

"Conceptual images and scaled models of what the new stadium and surrounding area could look like were by Foster + Partners, the British architecture group appointed to design the stadium district. These will provide a masterplan for more detailed feasibility, consultation, design and planning work as the project enters a new phase."

The Old Trafford Redevelopment Task Force set up by the club in March 2024 completed its feasibility study on 17/01/2025. The report sets out two options: renovating the current stadium and increasing its capacity to 87,000 (from 74,879 at present) and building a new 100,000-seat stadium…
