Sky Bet Championship: Sunderland AFC display special crest to highlight the impact of climate change

Sunderland AFC (Sky Bet Championship) wore a "unique crest" on Matchday 38 of the 2024-25 season, in order to "highlight the devastating effects of climate change" as announced by the club on Friday 14/03/2025, ahead of their match versus Coventry City FC (3-0 loss at the Coventry Building Society Arena, Saturday 15/03/2025).

As part of Green Football's Great Save initiative (see below), "the first-of-its-kind activation" saw Sunderland's "iconic coastal crest altered to demonstrate the potential impact of rising sea levels. Since 1880, global average sea levels have risen 21-24cm and predictions estimate that parts of the English coastline could be submerged by 2050, including the iconic Roker Pier and Sunderland Marina," explained the club.
