Women's sport: projected global revenues of $2.35bn in 2025, up from $692m in 2022 (Deloitte)

"Deloitte predicts that global revenues in women's elite sports will reach at least $2.35bn (£1.88bn) in 2025. This follows revenues in 2024 surpassing original predictions of $1.28bn (€1.17bn), to hit $1.88bn (€1.72bn). Overall, revenues in women's elite sports are predicted to have risen by 240% in four years, with Deloitte valuing the market at $692m (€634m) in 2022," according to the audit and consultancy firm in its report "Beyond the billion-dollar barrier: Charting the next phase of growth" published on 17/03/2025.

The $2.35bn in revenue forecast for 2025 is broken down as follows:
• 54% from commercial revenue ($1.27bn);
• 25% from TV rights revenue ($587m);
• 21% from matchday revenue ($493m).

North America, where the WNBA and NWSL in particular are organised, is the territory with the largest share of projected global revenues for 2025 (59%), while 18% of these revenues are generated in Europe, according to Deloitte. In terms of sport, basketball leads the way, generating 44% of global revenues, ahead of football (35%).
