esports: RB Leipzig crowned VBL Club Championship by WOW winners for a record third time in 2024-25

RB Leipzig's (Bundesliga) esports team have been crowned champions of the VBL Club Championship by WOW, played on the EA SPORTS FC 25 (Electronic Arts), for a record third time in 2025, announced the DFL, organiser of the esports competition, on 23/03/2025.

"The VBL Club Championship is a competition of the Virtual Bundesliga. During the regular season, 35 clubs from the Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga played for a place in the final. The top ten clubs after the divisional phase and the play-offs contested the final tournament on Saturday and Sunday," explained the DFL, which distributed a total of €87,500 in prize money to the participating clubs (see below).

Leipzig beat Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the final of the competition for a record third title (in six editions) after winning in 2022-23 and 2023-24. "Unbeaten brothers Marc 'Marc_LDW23' and Sean 'Sean_LDW07' put Leverkusen 2-0 up in the first of three final matches, only for Leipzig pair 'RBLZ_Umut' Gültekin and Anders 'RBLZ_Vejrgang' to fight back and secure a 4-2 success," said the German League.
