Abdelatif Benazzi, vice president of the Fédération Française de Rugby in charge of international affairs, has been unanimously elected president of the Six Nations Council, a body made up of representatives of Six Nations Rugby's six member federations (England, Scotland, France, Italy, Ireland and Wales), for a three-year term, announced the body on 26/03/2025.

"The prime responsibility of the Six Nations Council is to oversee all sporting, governance and regulatory matters that concern the Six Nations and their annual Championships and competitions," explained the body.

Abdelatif Benazzi, who is also chair of World Rugby's men's high performance rugby committee, succeeds Scotland's Jonathan Jeffrey, who held the post from 2019 to 2024.

The former France international (78 caps between 1990 and 2001) was also a candidate for the presidency of World Rugby (2024-2028), an election won by Australia's Brett Robinson in the second round against Abdelatif Benazzi (27 votes to 25) on 14/11/2024.
