Barclays Women’s Championship: a record 187,859 spectators cumulative after 17 matchdays

A record 187,859 cumulative spectators have attended the 17 matches played so far in the Barclays Women's Championship with 21 matches still to be played, compared to 132,280 during the 2023-24 season, according to the Women’s Professional Leagues (WPLL) on 24/03/2025.

Newcastle United also broke the league's attendance record for a single match, succeeding Sunderland (15,387 at the Stadium of Light, 48,707 capacity), "with 38,502 packing into St James' Park (52,000 capacity) on Sunday to see the home side run out 1-0 winners (versus Sunderland) courtesy of Shania Hayles' second half strike," explained the women's league.

"The fixture was the highest attended game in both divisions across the most recent match weekend (22-23/03/2025), with Arsenal against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium in the Barclays Women's Super League just behind, drawing in a crowd of 35,628," added WPLL.
