Davis Cup: Kosmos & ITF reach amicable agreement after early contract termination

The Spanish investment fund Kosmos and the International Tennis Federation "have reached an amicable resolution regarding their previous contractual disagreements related to the organisation of the Davis Cup," announced the ITF on 27/03/2025.

The group founded by Spanish ex-footballer Gérard Piqué had taken the ITF to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and filed a complaint against the ITF for "damages and prejudice" due to the latter's "unjustified breach" of the contract for the organisation of the Davis Cup on 25/01/2023. Kosmos was claiming "up to $50m" in compensation.

Kosmos had entered into a 25-year partnership with the ITF, valued at $3bn (€2.4bn), to organise the men's national team tennis competition from 2019, on 26/02/2018. After four seasons in operation and several changes to the format of the competition created in 1900, including the abandonment of the home-and-away format - not without attracting a great deal of criticism - the ITF terminated its contract with the Spanish fund prematurely on 12/01/2023.
