"The fight against piracy is a matter of the utmost urgency, and I am delighted that the text by Senators Savin (LR, Isère) and Lafon (Union Centriste, Val-de-Marne) includes almost all of our proposals in this area," announced Vincent Labrune, president of the Ligue de Football Professionnel, on the website of the French daily newspaper Les Echos on 26/03/2025.

Labrune was reacting to the draft law on the organisation, management and financing of professional sport, presented by Laurent Lafon on 19/03/2025, the day after it was submitted to the French Senate. The last three articles (out of 12) of this legislative proposal are aimed at "strengthening the means of combating the piracy of audiovisual sports content."

"The creation of an offence of piracy in the field of sport is a good thing. It will make it possible to insert into the Sports Code measures that are somewhat similar to those that exist in the fight against copyright infringement," said Vincent Labrune.
