Sweden: former Svensk Elitfotboll president Simon Aström named president of the Swedish FA

Simon Aström, born on 24/09/1982, was elected president of the Swedish Football Association (SvFF) at the General Assembly held in Solna, a suburb of Stockholm (SWE) on 22/03/2025.

Aström succeeds Fredrik Reinfeldt, former Prime Minister (2006-2014), who was elected on 25/03/2023 and resigned on 13/02/2025, following criticism notably for his support for VAR, which the Swedish league abandoned in April 2024.

Simon Aström had been president of Svensk Elitfotboll, the league representing the 32 clubs in the top two men's divisions, since 2022. Jens T Andersson, Simon Aström's predecessor (2021-2022) as president of the league, also became his successor on 21/03/2025.

"It is with great humility that I would like to thank you for your support. Working together, creating a sense of shared commitment and taking Swedish football forward together with you are the areas I will be focusing on," said Simon Aström at the general assembly after his election.
