Spain: RFEF to ask FIFA's permission to use "cost-effective" VAR in the Liga F (women's top flight)

The Spanish Football Federation and its president Rafael Louzan will be asking FIFA for authorisation to use Football Video Support in Liga F in 2025-26, announced the RFEF on 26/03/2025.

Football Video Support is a "cost-effective" kind of VAR, a video-assisted refereeing system that FIFA and IFAB want to launch for competitions that do not have VAR.

This less sophisticated technological aid, and therefore less expensive than VAR, allows both teams (a maximum of twice per match each) to request verification of an action on replay (in the same cases as for traditional VAR) when the match is broadcast with fewer than four cameras.

The objective is the "first step towards aligning the top men's and women's leagues with an equivalent VAR system in the medium term," said the RFEF.
