The 2021 World Athletics Championships have been awarded to the city of Eugene (Oregon, USA), at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) in Beijing (China) on 16/04/2015.

No bidding process was launched by the IAAF for the 2021 edition. The body awarded the 2019 edition to Doha (Qatar) ahead of Eugene in the second round of voting (15 against 12) on 18/11/2014.

"The proposal to award the IAAF’s premier competition to Eugene, bypassing the usual bidding process, was taken in response to what was seen as a unique strategic opportunity to host the IAAF World Championships for the first time in the USA," said the IAAF on 16/04/2015.
