"FIFA has announced the prize money for the Club World Cup 2025, with the winner receiving over €100m. This will have an impact on our national leagues, especially the big leagues where these clubs play. The gap between the big clubs and the rest is widening all the time. When you see that the majority of revenue from international club competitions at the top of the football pyramid ends up in the pockets of a few clubs, it's clear that we need to find a better balance," said Claudius Schäfer, president of European Leagues, to News Tank Football on 11/04/2025.

Schäfer, who is also president of the Swiss Super League, spoke alongside Mathieu Moreuil, director of international relations and EU affairs at the Premier League and vice-president of European Leagues since his election on 06/03/2025 for the 2025-2029 cycle.
