Italy: no more "high-risk matches" in the evening in 2025-26 (Ministry of the Interior decision)

"During the 2025-26 season, it will no longer be permitted for high-risk matches to kick off in the evening, as happened with the match between SS Lazio and AS Roma," announced the Italian Ministry of the Interior to the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) on 15/04/2025.

24 people, including 13 police officers, were injured during numerous serious clashes in the vicinity of Rome's Stadio Olimpico during the derby (1-1) on Matchday 32 of 2024-25 Serie A Enilive season played on Sunday 13/04/2025, with kick-off at 20:45 (CET). Incidents and brawls had already begun in the late afternoon.

Matteo Piantedosi, Minister of the Interior since 22/10/2022 in the government of Giorgia Meloni (extreme right), immediately promised "all the necessary measures to guarantee the safety of the men and women in uniform". More than 2,000 members of the police force were mobilised for the match.

Fans of the two Roman teams have been banned from travelling to their team's next three matches, i.e. until the end of the 2024-25 season, by decision of the Ministry of the Interior.
