Ligue 1 TV rights: "We can talk to Nicolas de Tavernost and I will do" (M. Saada, Canal+)

"Bringing him (Nicolas de Tavernost) to the table is a good way of getting me back on the subject of Ligue 1. We can talk to him and I will. But I'm not forgetting the damage that was done to us under the previous contract," said Maxime Saada, chairman and CEO of Canal+ Group, to the French sports daily L'Équipe on 18/04/2025.

Saada was reacting to the forthcoming appointment of Nicolas de Tavernost, former chairman of the executive board at Groupe M6, as CEO of LFP Media. The Ligue de Football Professionnel is due to make the appointment official on Wednesday 23/04/2025, according to L'Équipe. Nicolas de Tavernost, who has until now been acting CEO of RMC-BFM (ex-Altice Media, since July 2024) and vice-president of CMA Média (a subsidiary of CMA CGM, since May 2024), will replace Benjamin Morel, who left his position with the LFP in February 2025.

This appointment comes at a time when mediation between the LFP and DAZN, the domestic broadcaster of eight (out of nine) live Ligue 1 McDonald's games per matchday for an average of €400m a year over the 2024-2029 cycle, has failed. The…
